Road to Boston Day 72
Went out in the woods after I got back from another funerary service. One of my running buddies lost his son who had cerebral palsy. It was a beautiful service.
Usually I’m excited about a forest run, even in the winter. Was going to try to get out early today but it was close to zero this morning. I was still pretty leg-tired from that hill workout last night. Not sore, not fatigued per se, leg-tired. Glutes a little sore from squatty workout on Thursday.
Snow and ice on the trails made the running a bit challenging. Slowed me down though, which was ok. Didn’t fall. The frozen springs and stream crossing are frozen solid, but like lava flows, the water still has to find a way out and is bubbling out the top making slush pockets.
Listened to the History of English podcast and learned all about the Greek influence on English. Did you know that the root word for gymnasium is the Greek word for ‘naked’? Because they thought the best athletic performances were done naked. Therefor when you say “I’m going to the gym” you really are saying “I’m going to get naked”.
Starting to feel some hot spots from the training intensity and volume. Plantar is a bit sore. Got a little runner’s knee. Nothing awful. Just maintenance at this point. Got to make sure to do my daily stretching and core. Keep my nutrition up.
Weighed in at 171 and 9.4% body fat this morning. The volume and intensity is helping me burn fat.
