Episode 5-508 – Dorcy – Hate Addiction
Hello my running friends. Welcome to episode 5-508 of the RunRunLive podcast.
Today I have a very powerful and important conversation with Dorcy Pruter about why and how people are so full of fear and hate and what to do about it.
As endurance athletes we use our legs and our lungs to cope with the stresses of life, but I felt like there was something deeply unnerving and destructive going on in the world right no that we need to address. So – this is the first of a series of episodes I’m going to do with guests that explore this topic.
It is my gift to you and those you love. Tools for living as it were. I always find that what is top of my mind is usually top of everyone’s mind. Somehow, we are connected this way.
In section one I’m going to address a commonly asked question about knee injuries.
In Section two I’ll express a condensed version of what I’m thinking in regard to the hate culture.
…
I think today’s conversation is so important that I am going to publish the stand-alone interview on my feed as well so that you can bookmark it, listen to it again and share it with others.
This is not just a ‘how do I avoid the negativity and hate conversation. Dorcy gives us a very powerful tool. Ask the question, “What am I without the hate?” It is a conversation about how to rediscover your true self that has been beaten out of you by a constant harangue of outrage and a constant assault of fear.
I do think, that she may be a bit reductive in Freudian damage as the root cause, but regardless of the source, the problem and the solutions are the same.
Don’t be alarmed at my passion here. I am searching, as I always do, for the third way, which is what we all should do when given either-or ultimatums. The either-or ultimatum is a false dichotomy – excellent Greek word there – This false dichotomy seeks to eliminate your free will by forcing a binary decision.
We are better than that. We need to believe that there is a third way.
There is a blue sky when you get above the clouds.
…
I am very busy but am doing well. I’m healthy and staying fit, as fit as possible. I’ll give you an update on my training and other projects in the outro.
For now, I will use Dorcy’s words to give you a centering gift.
Take a deep breath with me and put your hand on your heart.
And say this with me.
I am safe.
I don’t have to fight to exist.
I’ve got you.
I see you.
…
On with the show.

Section Two: Hate
Outro
Well my friends, you have chosen love over hate and blissfully ambled hand in hand to the end of yet another RunRunLive Podcast, Episode 5-508 – the timer went off and it is done.
I have been maintaining my base and my weight. I’m running 3 times a week with strength and flexibility. I’m back in the trails and they continue to be runnable.
I have even survived a couple falls. I find myself falling very mindfully now. Funny how that works. Instead of trying to roll and bounce I look for the soft spot in the trail and try not to hit too hard!
Ollie the Collie is doing great. He’s such a love now. I think he’s going to struggle as the weather gets hotter and I’m going to need to find a way to bring a dish with me and find water because he will not go near the ponds. He has a great suspicion of open bodies of water.
He does that same thing Buddy used to do when he gets tired. They run out in front of you about 3 feet and stay right in your lane so you lose your ability to see the trail obstacles coming – you know pick a good line and avoid the baby heads and the stump nubbins.
I am grateful to have his company.
I told coach we need to load some more volume in as the canyon crossing gets closer. I think I could do 4-5 runs a week and I can definitely start lying in some ski-hill repeats for specificity.
So – if for some crazy reason you want to see the video of this interview it is posted on YouTube. You can see my tie-died Boston Half Marathon hat from the Covid years. It was a white hat that I really liked, but it got all yellowed so I tie-died it.
Please go buy and read my new Apocalypse book. I put a lot of work into it and it’s really good. I’m working on the second one now. I get 13,000 downloads a month over at that audio story podcast “Aftter the Apocalypse” and people get really involved with it.
Again, I’m grateful.
I found a couple of new podcasts that I’m loving for my runs.
The first id from my friend Carlos, and I don’t know how I’ve missed it for this long because it goes back to 2007. It’s called the Deadpod – which is another grateful dead concert show.
https://deadshow.blogspot.com/
I already listen to the Dead sho of the month podcast – which plays an entire concert, with an intro, a midpoint break and an outro. The DSOTM, as it is called, can be 4 hours long which is great for a super long run, but a little long for normal people.
The Deadpod, on the other hand, is a hour to an hour and a half snippet with minimal commentary, and includes unofficial ‘taper’ or fan recordings. So good for shorter outings and some interesting stuff.
Another recent find is that Time Team has a podcast. If you’re from the UK you know about Time Team, which was a quirky archeolgogical dig show from in the UK from 1994 through 2014. It was like a Archeology dig reality TV show, but in a good way, not in the awful mindless trashy way that American reality TV does it.
Well, anyhow, I watched all of them after the fact on streaming TV and really liked them. I love history and archeology. This week I discovered they have a podcast and I’ve been listening through that. It’s the epitome of dull British people talking to each other and I can listen to it at 1.5X. I think it’s also a YouTube thing.

Finally, I have listened to a couple episodes of a show called “The blue sky podcast” which takes the radical stance that there is a reason to be positive and hopeful. Why is that so outlandish?

Go find this interview and share it with people. You and I cannot fix or control the future but we can create our own, positive ripples in the force.
We can find the third way.
I’ll see you out there.
