Elma – In stitches

Intro:

Hello and welcome to the RunRunLive Podcast, this is Chris your host and this is episode 123 – there should be some fanfare, some celebration around episode 123, don’t’ you think?  Isn’t 123 just as proud and significant a number as 100 or 50?  It’s mathematically more significant. It’s quite a handsome number – I think it gets the short shrift, no?

Today we have a show that is so good you will stop mid-run and fall to the ground.  Your life will have become so fulfilled that there will be no reason to keep going, nay, no reason to keep living – this is the penultimate, the apex, the zenith of running podcasts…or maybe not, maybe I’m just a jet-lagged old midpacker with diarrhea of the mind!

Congrats to David who heard about The Tualatin River Trail 10-Miler race from  Christine the SoloRunner. He ran to the race, ran it and then ran home.  It wasn’t until a medal showed up I nthe mail this week that he realized he had won the masters division.  That’s the cool thing about first year races – you may be able to place in them!  David and I were trading emails because he was signing up in Buckeye outdoors to give me his miles for the “There can be only one contest” This is it.  If you are listening to this podcast before midnight on May 31st – go to Buckeye outdoors and log your miles for team RunRunLive it’s neck and neck and I had to work the phones all afternoon to pull ahead of Ken. I posted an idiots guide video of what to do on my YouTube feed – go to YouTube and search for CYKTRUSSELL.  It’s over this weekend so for all of you, like me who are sick of hearing about it, log your miles for the team and we’ll be done!  Ken’s a great guy, and those rumors about him being mean to puppies and old people are all false, I’m sure…

I decided not to do the Audible advertising right now on my podcast..It’s really not enough money for me to hassle with it.  But I’ll tell you how it works…If you go to the site and sign up for the free trial they send $10 to the referring show.  So go sign up for ZenRunner or Phedip or Savage love and they will get $10 to keep their podcasts going.  I also had a agency call wanting to put a text add on my website. www.runrunlive.com.  They were offering $100 a year.  No thanks, Hardly worth sullying your brand over, but if any of you bloggers want the info I’ll send it to you.

So – good show today! We interview today John Bradley of Resole America.  Cool dude, cool company and we have a great chat.  Thanks to Elma for the Dutch intro…You’ve got such a melodic combination of Dutch and Scotch – I could listen to it all day – you’ve a voice for radio!  And any friend of Border Collies is a friend of mine – the Blue Merle variety is very cool looking.

I’ve been down in Atlanta all week locked in a meeting with no limited access to the world, but I did manage to get up at 5:00 AM every morning and work out in some form.  And I know many of you expressed amazement at how I manage to continue my scheduled workouts while I’m out full time and I’ll talk to some of that today.

But one thing I have emphasized before is that you can’t expect as much out of yourself, especially later in the week as your energy reserves flag. So I did a hard hill workout on the stationary bile on Monday before I went down, then ran a fairly hard tempo workout on Tuesday morning on the hotel treadmill, but eased up on Wednesday with a non-taxing spin on the stationary bike and this morning I met a co-worker for a walk around Buckhead.  She didn’t want to go out on her own and I had an easy day so it was a nice change.

I’m going to try to keep up this 5:00 AM experiment for a month.  They say you can make anything into a permanent habit if you do it for a month straight.  The issue for me is that it really means less sleep.  You don’t go to bed earlier – you just sleep less and I don’t know if that is sustainable.  Will I adjust and be able to live and execute the things I need to execute or will I just end up like a zombie…and you know how I feel about zombies…

But that would be a dead topic…On with the show!

Outro:

Well it looks like you and I, dear friend ore out of time for today…and I had hoped for so much more, so sad, such ennui,  the end of another RunRunLive Podcast – ‘a little death’ as the French would opine.  Next week I have no idea what I’m doing – but It will work out, it always does.  Send me some audio – especially if you have a wonderful lilting accent…

As I was flying down this week, on the plane in Boston, getting settled, a mom came in with two little kids, maybe 4 0r 5 years old.  And she said to them “now if you are well behaved, if you are good on the airplane ride, you’ll get some ice cream”  So without missing a beat I adked her if I could get some ice cream if I was good on the flight. …  And they were good on the flight…but as we were pushing back from the gate they were so excited, “We’re moving!”  And as we were taking off they got even more excited – “ We’re flying, Mom!”  And I love that.

I love the fact that they are not jaded by a thousand flights, they see the world as a fun place, a place of adventure.  They see the miracle of lifting a metal tube of people off the ground, into the heavens as the magic that it is.

I and I ask you? What happened to us?  Whay can’t we see the magic?  You know why?  Because we stopped looking for it…  Open up your hearts this week and see the world for the magical adventure that it is.  Think like a kid.  It’s all just a big ride.  Enjoy it.

And I’ll see you out there – music tonight is from the podsafe music networ and is called “Crawl by Alec Berlin.   Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend.
