The abundance of nothing

The abundance of nothing.

abundanceI hear many stories about people who have suffered near death experiences or great personal perils and they come out of the experience changed.  Their whole attitude about life, the world, and most importantly themselves has been wrenched free of its moorings.  In these terrible personal trials they find peace and strength.

Why?

In these moments of loss they discover that the things that worried and pestered them and scared them are not real things.  They discover that at the core of it all is only peace.  They discover that the things that they were trying to control were only an illusion.  With this discovery they find peace because when you find peace in nothing, or the loss of everything, the abundance of life is clear.  The abundance of now is clear.

They begin to understand that all the things that concerned them before are like buzzing flies.  They realize that abundance comes only from within.  Abundance is a understanding, a state and attitude that is available by choice.

These people often say that this thing they feared the most, whether a cancer or the loss of a loved one was a gift.  It was a gift because it pulled their concept of the world back into place.  It shoved out the hurly-burly of commonplace commotions and exposed them to the abundance of the now.

This allows them to carry this state of abundance forward in life.  I allows them to compare the events of the day with the ultimate nothing and in that comparison there is nothing to fear.  Since they have faced death they can smile at life.

You, my friends, don’t have to face death to find life.  You need to remind yourself that you started from nothing and you can always go back to having nothing.  You can put yourself in a position, an attitude of abundance by choice.  There is nothing to lose because there really is nothing at all.

Today is a gift.  Right now is a gift.  Sweep away the buzzing flies of scarcity and live with that abundance.  Live, dare I say it, with love.
