Episode 5-495 – Coach Nora and some frequently asked questions
Hello my running friends. Welcome to episode 5-496 of the RunRunLive podcast.
Today we have a fun chat with Nora who is a coach and athlete about frequently asked questions. We ran into each other when I was answering running questions on Facebook. As always Nora’s contact links will be in the show notes. If you want to take a look at her practice it’s at mileaftermile.co.
I am consistently pushing this podcast out every two weeks while I can manage it, because I enjoy doing so. But, I’m not going to focus so much on the fine details for now because I just don’t have the time.
This is the RunRunLive ‘compromise’ version, where we don’t edit as tightly and don’t polish as much. But we still have conversations and try to have fun.
In section one I talk about shoes. And if you don’t agree with me, there’s going to be a rumble.
Like in West Side Story or The Outsiders.
Have you read The Outsiders? Have you seen the movie?
The Outsiders was one of those books we were forced to read in grade school. I think the point was to teach us that class divisions in society were stupid and dangerous. It’s probably on the banned book list now. Let me check. Yup. Of course it is. For, and I quote, “due to its portrayal of gang violence, underage drinking and smoking, strong language, and family dysfunction”.
Because reality and empathy have no place in a child’s education!
BTW – the 1983 version of that was loaded with young stars, including, C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, and Diane Lane.
And in section two I’ll talk about retirement some more and how to treat it as a career transition.
I’ll give you an update of all my projects in the outro.
On with the show.
Section One – Shoes!

Thanks for the conversation today. Here is the info that you requested. Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks,
Nora

Outro
Well my friends you have successfully answered enough frequently asked questions to get to the end of episode 5-496 of the RunRunLive Podcast.
Nice work.
My shoulder is progressing. I have my arm out of the sling. It’s more like a toothache now. Just hurts and I can’t really extend that arm or lift anything.
I did start running again. I’m doing some easy work on the road and the rail trail. Ollie doesn’t like running on the roads. He has to stay on leash and that is against his nature. But we had him to the vet this week and he’s healthy as a horse. He’s lost a couple pounds, like me, this summer, but the vet commented on how much muscle he has.
I’m resetting my sights on a road marathon in February, just so I don’t waste my fitness.
I’ve discovered that all the long slow trail running over the summer has made me really slow. So I’ll start playing with some tempo and see what I can do without breaking myself.
But, I need to stay off the trails for now.
It’s rolling into winter here in New England. Had our first frosts last night. Time to dig out the tights and see if I can get another year out of them!
I’m keeping my weight down and I think I’ll reset that goal to be something around staying light through the holidays which is always a challenge.
I’m still pounding on the manuscript for my apocalypse book series. You always hear people complaining about how much work publishing a book is and you think to yourself ‘ahhh that guy’s just a neurotic mess…it can’t be that hard..’
I am here to testify that , yes, it is.
I hope you are doing ok. It’s a busy time of year. Focus on what is important to you. Practice emotional detachment from those things that are not. Take a step towards your dreams today.
Practice some love.
And I’ll see you out there.
