5 at 5 Day Two

June 2nd 2017 – 49 Degrees and Sunny again this morning.

Straightened out a couple of the corners and got my route down to 5.32 miles.  I think that’s good.  Close enough.  Part of my running psychosis has always been rounding the distance. 🙂

Got to sleep at 10 ish last night.  Family came in late, after 8:30 and after working heads down all day I wanted to spend some time with them.  I made a casserole that my wife thoroughly enjoyed (and she usually hates everything I cook just on principal) – comfort food!

I had a couple beers too, as an experiment, to see how I felt in the morning.  I think two beers is the over/under for getting up and going running!  No ill effects except I had to make a run to the loo at midnight.  Don’t feel like I slept well.

Dog woke me up at 4:47.  I don’t know why I even own an alarm clock.

Eating so late made me worried that I would have some issues on the trail this morning but I managed again to get my run in with no ‘code brown’ situation.

Buddy made the first 2.2 miles with me no issues.  He wanted to go back out with me for the second half but I wouldn’t let him.  The trails were much firmer today after a day of sun.  Less mud to deal with.

I didn’t fall down, if you apply NFL rules.  I caught a toe but managed to fend off a full face plant with my hands.  My knees and elbows never hit the ground so it doesn’t count as a fall.  But the high impact squat-thrust I did tweaked the bruised rib from that 50k two weeks ago.  Summary, I have some back and chest pain.

Long Pond was gorgeous this morning.  Really Pretty in the raising sun with no wind.

I met my friend the white tailed deer again.  She’s a looker.

One of the corners I cut was the long meadow strip, so my Hokas stayed much dryer.  They haven’t mowed yet.  With all the rain the grass in the meadow is shoulder high.

There could be tigers hiding in that grass.

You never know.

Chris,
