5.38 Miles, 60 Degrees, Sunny and absolutely beautiful. Very low humidity.
Longest day of the year yesterday. Sunrise at 5:08 yesterday, 5:09 today. It’s all down hill from here!
The official sunrise is 5:09 but the day begins to wake up around 4:30. That’s when the happy birds wake up. That’s when I usually wake up too. If we have the windows open those energetic birds are quite loud. I imagine if you are from the city it would drive you nuts.
In the winter we don’t get so many nature sounds. No insect buzz, no frogs croaking and no happy birds chirping. For the winter solstice the sunrise on December 21st 2017 is 7:10 AM. That day will be 6 hours and 12 minutes shorter than this one.
In the winter all is dark and quiet. All one is apt to hear in the forest is the hoot of the hunting owls. Occasionally our closeted nights, behind tightly bolted windows, are interrupted by the spooky howls of coyotes celebrating a significant kill.
The dog started our run by losing himself in the weeds next to the front door. I had to stop my run, turn around and go back for him. He had found something yummy in there that he was trying valiantly to Hoover up. I had to physically pick him up and put him back on the trail to get him away from whatever it was. Maybe the kids tossed some food over the rail?
Did not pass anyone in the woods. Trails nice and dry. Legs fine.
Tomatoes are finally starting to grow. Harvested some kale, Swiss chard and baby broccoli to make a salad for lunch.
Last week of this project. Going to have to decide what my next adventure should be.
