5.27 miles, Raining, 69 degrees.
Storm passed through last night. Good. We needed the rain and it broke the humidity.
Woke up at 4:50 but it was pouring rain so I rolled back over. Had a hard time getting to sleep last night. Was watching The Big Lebowski and had never seen it before, but shut it off around 10:00.
Rain was mostly ceased when I headed out with Buddy at 6:00ish. Trails were fine. No puddling. The water from the rain seems to have just sunk in.
Saw quite a few rabbits, especially in the meadows. If I had lethal laser beams in my eyes I could have gotten at least 3 for dinner.
Felt my first deer fly. It’s going to be a bad year for deer flies with all this water. I think if I get out early enough I can avoid the majority of them.
Was tired this morning for some reason. I think I got a bit dehydrated walking around the city in the heat yesterday.
I ended up taking my motorcycle in to Alewife Station to pick up the Red Line T. It was pretty hot on the bike in traffic. Nothing like straddling a giant engine on a hot sunny day. I was able to make up my own parking space right up close to the door – so that worked out.
My first meeting was a block down from South Station. Then I had to get out to Dry Dock in the Seaport for my lunch meeting. It’s about a mile walk. I usually walk because it’s out by the ocean, fairly interesting. There is a bus, the Silver Line, that you can jump on from South Station, but it’s less interesting and sometimes takes longer.
There are not many trees on that stretch down Summer Street by the harbor. I got fairly well cooked.
Starting to think about what my fall race goals should be. Should I run another ultra? Should I try to run a fast marathon? I could try to see if I could modify my speedwork program of MarathonBQ for someone my age.
I think the thing that makes humans different, is not our big brains, not our bodies built for running, not our dexterous hands – no, I think what makes us successful is our restlessness. I think we are programmed to seek and to grow and to find the edges of our space. That’s our differentiating strategy.
Cheers,
C-,
