Intro:  Hello and welcome to episode 88 of the runrunlive podcast.  Got a great show for you today?  Hey how’s the audio sound?  A little better? I picked up a new headset.  I get an alert from Buy.com every morning and I picked up a $85 dollar headset for $29 bucks! Score! You should get yourself on that alert – especially with the holidays coming around. I also bought a new desktop – a dual core HP pavilion for $370 – score.  I’m planning to build out a little man cave in the basement and this should positively impact the audio quality of the podcast.

Today we are going to talk with Dave Dunham local elite runner and mountain runner.  He got himself into Runners World over the summer by running in every town in Massachusetts.  He’s a great runner and a great guy.  I think you’ll really enjoy it.

I’m also going to give you a few equipment tips and do a longer instructive piece on track workouts specifically for marathon training.

Also I’m going to include a speech I recorded as a practice run for a humorous speech contest in one of my Toastmasters clubs.  If you don’t know what Toastmasters is, it’s a public speaking club where you can go and learn the specific tactical skills of public speaking for dirt cheap.  Visit a couple clubs and find one that’s right for you.  It’s really worthwhile.  I would consider myself a fairly competent public speaker, but TM allows me to practice stuff that’s out of my comfort zone – like this humorous speech you’ll hear.  And by the way I came in 3rd place out of 8 – so I still have a lot to learn!

Big thanks to Duff Runner for the intro.  And I’ve met some cool people this week.  Ironman Bobby wants to pick me up at the airport in DC and drive me around so he can interview me –isn’t that cool?  And there are a whole bunch of us going down to the MCM.  Hopefully I’ll get to see some folks and take some pictures.  Another online Friend Richard Offered to pick me up and have me stay over at his house – and I would have taken him up on it, but I had already booked with Priceline so I couldn’t cancel.

I met podcast friends from Puerto Rico, France and Mexico this week.  Later in the show I’ll share with you the numbers as far as people downloading this podcast goes – I’m not selling anything so I don’t see why you shouldn’t know…maybe you’ll find it interesting – I do.  It blows me away how many of us there are out there around the world and how much we have in common.

So yeah – I’ve had a good week.  Got my headset, got my new computer, got a signed copy of John Callos’ book “Iron Ambition”, works going well and I look like a prescient being because I didn’t freak out when things weren’t going well!  The only things I’m waiting on are the bamboo underwear I won from SaxxApeal on Twitter and my new CoolRunning hat.

If you’re running right now, or even if you’re not – I’m sending good karma your way so straighten up, take a nice deep breath, in through the mouth, out through the nose, and Smile!

On with the Show!

Outro:

Well I’ll make this quick ‘cause we’re running ling today.  Just too much great stuff to talk about, eh?  I promised I’d share my download numbers and lately we get around 2,000 downloads a week – some weeks more, some weeks less.  So whomever you 2,000 people are – you can friend me on Facebook at cyktrussell, or twitter cyktrussell that’s Chris, Yellow, King, Tom Russell – two ss and two ll’s – if you are feeling magnamimous go out to the itunes store and leave me a review – just search on runrunlive – all one word – and tell a couple friends! More the merrier.  This is your show as much as mine – so sedn me an email or leave me some audio on the call in line – love to hear from you – love to help with whatever I can to make the community stronger.

Music tonight is a little bit country – it’s called “Black Swamp Creek” and it’s by a gentleman, I’m sure he’s a fine gentleman, named 8-Ball Aitken…

The parting thought I’ll leave you with is that I’m impressed with the diversity of people I’ve been meeting.  Diversity makes the world a stronger healthier place. It is the mutations that drive radical and positive breakthroughs – so don’t forget to act like a mutant everyonce in a while – break out of your box and show the world your burning, beautiful light.  In the words of the old blues standard Let it shine, shine, shine – let it shine! And I’ll see you out there.
