  1. Me? I can tell you ALL about the view from the back of the pack BUT I like to think my views about running and attitude about the running community cover the WHOLE pack – fast, slow, and in between? Why would I want the shoes? They look like they may work well for me (not that looks tell of course!) but I just love everything (and I do mean everything) NYC. Every last borough!

  2. Oh, and why ASICS? Let’s go with their great taste in Editor’s Challenge runners for 2014. I mean, they’ve got Lean Girls Club, that wine runner, and some guy from MA among others! 🙂

  3. I’m a runner and an eater. I’m married, and we just had our first child. Did you know ASICS is an acronym for the Latin phrase “anima sana in corpore sano”? I want free shoes so I can buy more tiny pants for my baby. She’s so cute in tiny pants!

  4. I am a runner who is always looking for the perfect shoe. I have been training for a half marathon which is next week, and a full marathon coming in February. I have worn Asics before and liked them. This model has great reviews and it would be awesome to represent NYC while running!

  5. Asics kayanos are the only shoe I’ve wee worn. Well, except that one time I switched and developed a foot fracture and could run for 3 weeks. My first race back from that fracture was NYC and you can bet I was back in my Kayanos. Now my daughter wants to start running which is great, but now I have to buy two sets of running shoes every couple months! Help a “poor”
    Mom out!

  6. I’ve never worn ASICS until yesterday, on a recommendation I tried them on. They feel awesome my feet. I’m the slowest runner you will know and come in last frequently. Hoping these can change that with the added gel cushion!

  7. I have been running in Asics for years and years and love them. I would like to try another type. They are expensive, so I find it hard to justify spending money on something that is unknown rather than my standard Asics. Love the podcast Chris, especially the productivity tips.

  8. Chris, first of all congrats on #300…i’ve been a listener since the mid 100’s, i think. It all started several years ago when I moved to NM and couldn’t bear running in the desert landscape without someone along for the ride. I’m now back living in NH and loving it, listening to your podcast during my commute.
Seeing Buddy’s photo in your post was scary…I thought something had happened to the old fella! Glad i didn’t read anything per that subject.
I don’t really want the pair of Asics…I’d never spend that much on a pair of running shoes anyway, so why start now with a pair I’d never buy again?
Keep up the good work, you’rs is one of the better ones…looking forward to your book, I’m an avid reader and have been reading running books for 40 years!

  9. With the hope that there is a men’s version, I submit that it is in the cards for me to win these.

A life-long Asics user, I was seduced away a few years back by the “lower heel” push of a couple of those unmentionable brands. Coincidentally, since July 29th of this year, following a recommended “step up” run by Mr. Russell himself (well-executed, I might add), I’ve been battling heel pain for the first time ever. Time for more support!

I’m also not afraid to play the “race” card here: I will look and feel glorious this year as I run the NYC Marathon with my brand new men’s version of the Asics Gel Kayano 21 NYC shoes!

*please send your bib number along as well, Chris, as that will be kind of an important detail.

  10. I started running last month after many years of it sitting on the back burner. Since I’m a newbie what better way to start but with a new pair of great fun shoes.

  11. Fawget aboutit.. Not in a Noo Yawk minute does a barefoot boy from the south side of Chicago want a pair of dem dutch big apple shoes. Don’t care even if are Asics Asics (a shoe so nice we had to name it twice). Go ahead and give dem to a sleepless schlep from Lawn Guyland. Oh, and our pizza is better too.

  12. I am wild, wacky, and sometimes a little hilarious! Asics are freaking awesome that’s why! My feet need some new shoes- that would be the primary reason I want them! Some super great shoes at that 🙂 *Rock out your run*

  13. Congrats on Episode #300 you are truly amazing and your motivational section iinspires me

These shoes look awesome! Having just purchased a new pair of another brand that caused blisters on both my feet, I would like to be to try these out! My husband just purchased his 2nd pair of Asics, and LOVES them! He says they’re like running on air. I could use that about now.

  14. Kayanos are one of my favorite ASICS as they are perfect stability shoes for me. I ran my first sub 2 hour half in Big Sur in them and they are often crazy colors which make them match just about anything (ok so sue me – I’m a girl). I hope I win this year’s model. Size 7 and a half, please.

  15. Hi all.. I live in England and I facing the usual wet and grey winter ahead of me.. With these great trainers on I’d inject some colour and vibrancy into my life for sure! Also winning would help me out with the wife too as she cannot except the fact I need as many new trainers as I do! I swear she’d have me running 2000 miles in each pair!! Here’s hoping.

  16. I started doing triathlons 3 years ago with my Boyfriend. He wears nothing but ASICS. I would love to try these out for the 2014 tri season. Thank you.

  17. Chris, congrats on episode 300 – I’ve listened to all of them. I ran my 1st marathon today in Grand Rapids. I’ve never run in ASICS, but I’d like to give them a try.

  18. In January of 2009 I decided it was time I quit my 25 year pack a day of Marlboro red cigarette habit. I started the C25K plan and bought a pair of running shoes recommended by my local running store after my first 25 minute run. By the time November 2009 rolled around, I was in my first pair of ASICS and running in a half marathon. Crossing that finishing line is one of the high points in my life. I felt fantastic, on top of the world and I didn’t want to take any of it for granted.

Things have changed since then. My best friend and training mate moved out of state, much loved family have passed on, new family have arrived, jobs have had ups and downs, finances have changed. I tried to keep up with running and did really well until I had to start down grading my running shoes. Now I don’t run at all. My feet just don’t do well in anything but the higher end ASICS. After long walks in my current shoes, I hobble. I’m very ready to take control of my training again, to continue on the path I started myself on in Jan 2009. I miss living you show’s title, “Run, Run, Live.” Thanks for your consideration!

  19. First time listener and glad I did because one, I think its great and two love the opportunity to win something. I could use the shoes because my wife will kill me if I drop another 100 or more dollars on a pair of shoes. Wives they just don’t understand.

  20. I started running with Asics a long, long time ago. They’ve always been one of my favorite running shoes. I love how they have a lot of cushion but don’t feel mushy. They are great for my long runs.

  21. Hey Chris. Congrats on the 300 episodes! Would love to get these shoes, they would go with EVERYTHING I run in. They sound like they’d be perfect for a mild overpronator like myself. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  22. A little about me? I’m a big guy who used to weigh 371 and now am down to 248 (up 20 due to injury this year) and runs! Started running two years ago and absolutely loves it, having run 5 half marathons and am looking forward to running my first full marathon next year!

About Asics? Honestly I know they’re a great brand, with quality shoes and have owned a couple in the past, but would love to try these with my running.

Why do I want them? Well, I have run in Brooks, Mizuno, and now New Balance and would love to try these Asics and do a good review of them for my site!

  23. Asics have been my go-to shoe since I started running in 2000. From GT to Gel Kayano to Gel Cumulus, I’ve evolved shoes as my stride has evolved. I’m running the NYC Marathon this year and would love to win a shiny new pair of Kayanos! I would be happy to pick them up at the expo.

  24. Hey Chris! I live in my 4E Asics, at work and while running. Yesterday I ran a 1/2 in Durham, NC, and got a “Asics” PR! But this pair will not be for me. I work with a gentleman who was recently diagnosed A1C diabetic and has been working hard to change his lifestyle. Recently he asked me for the Couch to 5K program packet I coach here in town. His finances are not the best, and he would have a hard time buying good running shoes. The Kayano’s would be a game changer for him!

  25. Hey Chris, great job with show 300. Laughing out loud at work in a quit lab always brings stares. Anyway I’m currently working on my number 13 marathon and frequently battle injuries. I very self destructive I guess. Don’t really care if I get the shoes even though it would be nice. Just wanted to say thanks.

  26. I tried Asics for the first time this past year, and they are my new favourite brand. The comfort and stability don’t waver. I’d love another pair since I’m a nurse and a runner! I’m doubly hard on shoes!

  27. 2002, overweight & out if shape, I decided I’d try running. My husband went to the running store and bought me the ‘best running shoe my feet will ever run in’ – My first pair of Kayanos. That year I also ran my first marathon. Fast forward 12 years, 4 state moves, 1 international move, 2 toddlers, 1 husband and 4 marathons, I’m still wearing Kayanos. Fun fact: they are the most expensive shoes in my closet. True story.

Another fun fact: I judge people who don’t wear ASICS – I question if they are true runners or just recreational ones 😉

I’d like a pair as I’m gearing up to run 3 marathons between December and March and my first ultra in April. I have 2 pairs of Kayanos in rotation and it’s just about time to get another. I love wearing the shoes that will keep me going for miles.

  28. So I’m a runner and getting back to my best since overcoming plantar fasciitis. I feel asics would benefit not only my PF but coerect my overpronation. I am tar getting a sub 40 10km and sub 90 HM so these shoes would be perfect.

  29. I am a 51yr old runner. I started running when I was at an all time high of 260lbs (currently 152) I have run 29 half marathons and one full. I can only wear ASICS to keep my feet pain free

  30. I’ve struggled over the years with my weight. I always enjoyed walking but never thought I could ever run. A few weeks ago I was walking the lake and wasn’t really feeling it anymore. I started to run and each day I can run for a little bit longer. It’s an awesome feeling and I would love to have sneakers that are designed for running. Thanks for the chance!

  31. I’ve been wearing Asics forever. Just ran my 1st half marathon this year at Disney World and these Asics are cool looking!

  32. I’ve decided to set myself the challenge of training and one day running the NYC marathon.. I’ve never been a distance runner and 42km scares the hell out of me… but it’s a self discovery journey! And asics.. well they’re my fav our tie running shoes.. literally feels like running on a cloud ☺

  33. 50,000 + miles in the diary now…and never had a pair of Asics. Surely, now is the time to find out what I’ve been missing.

  34. My husband has been a loyal Asics user for years. He has tried other shoes and nothing works better than his gel kayanos

  35. I’ve been wearing Gel Kayano’s since the mid-90s. Right now I am wearing Gel-Kayano 13’s! Can’t afford a new pair, and, at foot size 15, they are the only brand and model that fit me properly. Pick me and these shoes will have a long-useful life.

  36. Running the NYC Marathon for the first time next week and I’m so excited to be a part of such a special race. I’m hoping to cut almost 30 minutes off my last marathon time, and a new pair of Asics would certainly be quite the reward!

  37. I’m an avid runner with a dozen marathons under my belt since I started running in 2010. This fall I ran Chicago and Columbus, Ohio a week apart, first time I did 2 that close together. Let’s just say that won’t happen again for a long, long time! NYC is definitely on my bucket list, my times are just a bit off. Next year when I turn 40 I think I’ll get in with the extra few minutes. I love Asics, great training and racing shoes. The Kayano would most likely suit me great, I overpronate a bit. Thanks for the opportunity, I’d love to pound some pavement in these kicks!

  38. Chris, Asics certainly picked the right person to represent them and the running community. You have encouraged and accompanied us on many a run. I finished the Spinx full yesterday anda new pair of kayano’s would be wonderful. Also, I think they would allow me to run a little faster so Ivan stay ahead of the zombies, each year they get a little closer. Tim

  39. Living in the land of ASICS I’ve been lusting after a pair of Kayano for the past 15 years. I’d love to give you and your listeners a report on how shoes meant for the NYC marathon hold up in a race or long run here in Japan. Size 10US or 28cm ought to fit.
    Cheers and
    はしれはしれ生きていく

  40. These are some great comments, my friends, but I would expect nothing less from such intelligent and good looking people. I’ll see if I can move the drawing up to Friday or so so you can get your new shoes for the weekend 😉
I’ve been wearing these shoes around as my ‘kick around’ shoes. (they sent me a pair too) Too much heel for me to run in, but super comfy and very striking in appearance.

  41. Never tried Asics. I just had a baby and need some inspiration to get back out there. I think a new paid of kicks will do the trick! 🙂

  42. Comments from intelligent and good looking people huh? Well, I can change that!

I’m not going to admit to being dumb, but I’ve got ugly nailed. Getting rather old and slow, too. It’s kind of sad, but I bet a new pair of shoes would cheer me up. So does listening to your podcast. Sometimes. Though after listening to Adam and Eddie talk about how “awesome” you are, “Kenneth”, maybe I don’t know you at all (Hmmm, now what emoticon should go here…?)

  43. Hey Chris. Episode 300 was great. Thanks for all the years of service. Would love a new pair of shoes for my winter marathon training. Hope to see you out there one of these days. Best of luck in New York. – John

  44. I started running because of my Beautiful wife. Asics are great shoes, Hoping to win a pair for my Running Partner 🙂

  45. About me in a nutshell…I went from marathon runner to couch potato again. I gained back the 101 lbs I had lost (plus some) & had become an alcoholic. This year I got sober (8 months & counting) and got running again. It’s been tough getting back out there because while I physically feel like a newbie runner again, mentally I am not. This can be really tough. But I just finished a 1/2 marathon…my first race in over 2 years!! I have to remember to be patient with myself & my body.
In all honesty I know nothing about Asics, but I sure would love to find out! Since I have started running again I have been suffering a knee issue and this model shoe sounds like something that would highly benefit me. My hope would be that these shoes would help me to continue running & improving my health. I refuse to give up on myself…it would be nice if I had shoes that didn’t give up on me either. 😉

  46. I am currently training for my first marathon with my two best friends. I am surprised how quickly the miles have been adding up. I have been thinking if trying a pair of Asics as my next shoe because my friend swears by them. I’d love to try them!

  47. About me: 1 kid in college and 1 kid soon to be and a husband that has a bicycle addition – I can’t afford these on my own but would sure like to try them! I had some Asics as my first pair of running shoes but that was over 10 years ago and I can’t remember much about them other than I did continue to run – so they must be good since they continued to get me out the door!

  48. I’ve been running in an old pair of asics that are really showing their miles. They have been solid shoes for me and the running that I do. This is the second time this week that I’ve seen these shoes and they stand out to me each time!!! Love the color and love that they offer mild to moderate pronator support too.

  49. ASICS are sooooo comfy….always great cushioning. Perfect for long runs. I woulf love a pair …I have a tough tine being able to afford a new pair of good runners every year and witj training for 5-6 races a year winning these would be awesome! !

  50. Asics are great, when my husband got back to running 3 years ago, all he used to do was moan, about sore feet and toes. Since he discovered Asics the moaning has stopped and he has gon on to complete 6 marathons and 3 ironman distance triathlons. So it’s fair to say that Asics have transformed both our lives, I don’t want them for me, I want them for him. His comfort means a quiet life for me .

  51. Hi, I’m Kristen and I love to run. I’m a 38 year old mom of 3 training for my first marathon – the Asics LA Marathon in March 2015. I’m a fan of the brand and the shoe. This particular shoe has a ton of awesome features to help me not get injured. As a bonus, they are good looking too! That red right there is my power color. 🙂

  52. I am injured because I ran a marathon instead of deferring last year. .. I love these shoes because they have pizzazz. Give me some shoes with a little flavor and and I can build a Katie Perry style running outfit here. This may make getting back into running a little easier.

  53. I got injured last year about a month before what would’ve been my first marathon. I’m searching for the right shoe and I’m a big fan of Asics! I would love to be able to win and train for a marathon again.

  54. I’ve just started running and I think that these shoes would be fun to run in and help me stay motivated!
